BOE Reiterates Bailey’s Bond-Buying Deadline Remains Friday

In response to a rumour that the BOE would extend the deadline, a Bank of England spokesman on Wednesday cited prior remarks made by Governor.

Andrew Bailey that the central bank will cease its programme of emergency bond purchases on Friday.

Bailey, who aims to maintain market discipline despite traders and asset managers pricing in longer term support.

stated on Tuesday that fund managers must reduce weak holdings before the support expires.

The spokeswoman declined to comment on the previous Financial Times report that the BOE alerted certain lenders on Tuesday that it was willing to extend the facility over the deadline.

The newspaper said that the discussions occurred before Bailey insisted on the deadline in a speech on Tuesday.
