Labor Dept rule on independent contractors likely to land as early as Tuesday

According to two persons with knowledge of the situation, a draught Department of Labor regulation specifying whether employees of transportation, retail, and delivery firms are mistakenly classified

The new regulation's specifics have not been made public.

 But according to legal experts, the department is anticipated to broaden the pool of workers eligible for benefits or follow legal guidance that states those who are economically reliant on a corporation are employees.

The Principal Deputy Wage and Hour Administrator Jessica Looman and Solicitor of Labor Seema Nanda will hold a news conference on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m.
