Investors will be hoping for a late-year rally after the dreadful year of 2022, which is now in the final quarter.
That's not such a crazy idea, says Ryan Detrick, chief market strategist at Carson Group.
"Although October is known for crashes, Detrick recently wrote that the month really kills bear markets.
Six times since the beginning of the century, there have been bear (or nearly bear) markets in equities.
Could it occur once more? We'd be open to anything, especially with the current mood being so negative and the impending tremendously optimistic seasonals."
According to the American Association of Individual Investors Sentiment Survey released at the end of September, bearish sentiment is at 60.8%.
