Company Documents Show Meta’s Flagship Metaverse Falling Short

Internal documents reveal that nearly a year after Mark Zuckerberg renamed Facebook META -2.71% as Meta Platforms Inc.

META -2.71% in a bet-the-company move on the metaverse, the transition is still struggling with buggy technology, disinterested users, and an unclear understanding of what it will take to succeed.

Although Mr. Zuckerberg has stated that the move to a more immersive online experience will take years

the company's primary metaverse consumer offering, Horizon Worlds, is not performing up to expectations on the internal front.

By the end of this year, Meta had intended for Horizon Worlds to have 500,000 monthly active users.

It recently reduced that target to 280,000. The documents reveal that there are currently fewer than 200,000.
