The finance director of a North Carolina town admits to embezzling more than $500,000

According to federal prosecutors, the former finance director of a municipality in North Carolina admitted to stealing more than $500,000 from the community on Wednesday.

Gay Cameron Tucker, 64, of Fayetteville, who worked as the finance director for Spring Lake, pleaded guilty to embezzling from a local government.

According to a statement from the office of U.S. Attorney Michael Easley, according to The Fayetteville Observer.

When she is sentenced, she might spend up to 12 years in prison. There wasn't a date available right away.

According to officials, Tucker allegedly forged the signatures of other town officials, including the mayor and town manager.

To write cheques from the town's bank accounts for her own use. It was impossible to contact Tucker's attorney for comment.
